These are words from James Musto himself, when asked where he finds his materials to complete his gorgeous 2-dimensional assemblages. And, he admits, "Once you're in this mindset, it's almost impossible to throw things away." So, in the name of art, Musto keeps piles and piles of "trash" out of the landfills (and organizing it in his studio). Magazines (shiny, colorful sheets) and wrapping paper are two of the unassuming elements he uses that take on an entire new role - what looks like a backdrop of glossy metallic paint in each of these pieces is actually bits of magazine print ads and photographs that Musto meticulously selects for their color. These pieces of fine art are definitely a must-see. Stop into 'g's Mashpee showroom through November 27th to see them yourself!About the artist:
James Musto studied at the Rhode Island School of Design, The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and Cape Cod Conservatory of Music and Arts. As an artist, lecturer and sculptor, he has held creative arts workshops and lectures on expressing oneself through the nonverbal language of art.
