Some "food" for thought

"Eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we..." diet?

That's right.  We've heard this New Year's slogan, and you probably have, too.  After all, it's so 2010.  The motto of the holiday season is to keep on with all of the holiday eating and drinking and celebrating with family and friends - how can you say no to another dinner engagement, or having a few more cocktails to de-stress from crazy holiday shopping?  It is a time to splurge, both with the pocketbook and with the loosening of the belt buckle, with the understanding that, of course, it may not be the best decision for your health, but things will be different in 2011.  In the New Year you'll start going to the gym again, watch what you eat, and be good about your health.

Well, what if we all took the same approach to green building and better environmental practices.  Just like the social pressures of eating and drinking, we understand that there are life pressures - children, jobs, finances, time - that prevent us from making the greenest or even green choices.  But, there is always room for, shall we say, positive improvement?  From saving the kitchen scraps to compost them, unplugging appliances that you're not always using (or getting a smart-strip), making the leap to get the insulation in your home updated so you're not wasting so much energy to heat in the winter, switching to biodegradable and chemical-free cleaners, to purchasing responsibly - more local and organic food to local and sustainably produced goods, there are plenty of choices you can make, big and small, to contribute to a greener world.  Now that it's 2011, why don't you vow to slow down a little and make more intentional environmentally sound choices.  Your green New Year's diet.

At 'g we're always here to provide practical and thoughtful advice to help you be the greenest you.  We wish you a happy and healthy New Year and here's to a green diet in 2011!
