Green Kitchens and Baths: Workshop in Review

We'd like to thank everyone who came out to our Green Kitchens and Baths Workshop.  There were several guests in attendance, running the gamut of homeowner with looking to create the illusion of a more spacious kitchen out of a small one, a client moving from one room renovation to choosing a a new flooring material, a woodworker whose clients are asking for greener options, to a landscape architect.

Workshop guests listen to Nicole Goldman and Paula Smith intently

One of our workshop guests, Gail, came to the workshop because she is in the middle of remodeling her 200-year old house. Besides an interest in learning about green options to conserve energy, she had design needs of giving her kitchen a makeover including everything from a new counter top to opening up her shelving.  Gail made it very clear that cost is definitely a factor in her project, which we are always happy to work with.  Luckily, with more and more high quality green products entering the market one after another, we have a lot of materials at various affordable price points to offer.

The heart of the home truly is the kitchen, and our guests were there to soak up information about choosing cabinetry, countertops, flooring, tiling, lighting, finishes and more to lead to the safest internal environments.  In addition to a review of many of the available products, a lot of material was covered, from an overview of some characteristics that can make a project green to some realistic steps to think about when attempting a remodeling project to minimize environmental impact and how it's absolutely ok to start small.  Laughter swelled after owner and 'g' Founder Nicole Goldman stated, "'green' does not mean 'tree hugger'...it's about making smart choices," and 'g' Project Manager Paula Smith and one of our guests pointed out they were "wearing the same Dansko shoes!"  A smart choice, of course.  But realistically, being better educated leads to smarter choices, and those choices make all the difference in the world.  We're happy to help lead the educational process by offering workshops and resources.

Whether you think you know it all or know that you don't, attending one of our workshops is a great jumping off point to greening your home remodeling project and making your home as healthy as possible.  Our next homeowner workshop, Creating the Green Home, is February 26th.  Please stay tuned for more details on registering, stop by to talk to an associate, or give us a call!  We look forward to working with you to help you realize all of the green possibilities for your kitchen or bath remodeling project.

Ooh! Thanks for giving us a recap of your latest event. Would love to see photos of some of the green remodels your speakers have worked on. Before and after shots perhaps? This will show all of us in the blogosphere what's possible.

Thanks for all you do!
