Climate Action Week Falmouth will take place Monday, July 18 -- Sunday, July 24th to correspond with a visit to our town from New England Climate Summer participants who travel by bike to towns throughout New England and engage them on action being taken locally to address climate change. The Climate Action Week Committee has put together a program of exciting events to take place in different parts of our community including a film screening at New Alchemy Farm, a Climate Fair in Woods Hole, a Fix-your-own-bike clinic and a Send-off rally on Sunday the 24th. As leaders in our community, we hope Falmouth businesses will choose to participate. Whether, you're already taking environmental concerns into account or are new to the idea, here are a few ways your store or restaurant can play a role:

Ways to Participate:

Bring your Own Bag for Climate Action Week
Did you  know there's currently a bill introduced in the Mass State Senate to ban the use of non-biodegradable bags by large retailers? Plastic bags are made with petroleum and take up to 1,000 years to break down, leaching toxic chemicals into the foodchain as they do. San Francisco, Washington DC and Seattle have all banned, taxed or taken steps to reduce plastic bag consumption. From Monday Jul 18 - Sunday Jul 24, we're asking Falmouth businesses to take part in Climate Action Week's "Bring Your Own Bag" incentive. Businesses will agree to provide a 25-cent discount on purchases of $5 or more to customers who bring their own bag.

Climate Action Week Special! Local Food Dish
Locally sourced food is one way to reduce the man-made CO2 emissions that contribute to climate change, lessening the travel distance between the farm and the plate. A new chain of grocery stores called BrightFarms is taking that concept to the next level, growing their produce on their own roof. On Thursday, July 21st, we're asking Falmouth restaurants to offer a "Climate Action Week Special" which will include one or more local ingredients.

Make a Climate Pledge
See our website for a list of actions your business can take to move toward sustainability. Make a commitment to one or more and be acknowledged publicly in Sunday's Send-off Rally.

Your Own Idea?
Maybe you have your own thought of something you could do to participate. Let us know what it is and we'll make sure we get the word out.

All participating businesses will be given a postcard or flyer to hang in their window for the week and extras to have available for customers, listing the week's events.

To sign up to participate, please contact committee member Sarah Moon: sarahmoon@gmail.com, 718-715-8426
